Last Sunday's topic was on "What's the problem?" Yeah its in red because its a problem itself.
Firstly we learnt that "We are sinners because we are evil." According to the oxford dictionary meaning, EVIL is defined as morally reprehansible: sinful, wicked. Some of us may think that we cannot be evil because we didnt kill, steal, smoking when underage, engaging in underage sex. "everything underage" as said by dear James. Thats is where you are wrong. Romans 3:10-12 says that "there is no one righteous, not even one." Because God is holy, every sinful/wrong thing that we do displeases him. That itself makes us evil. Qouting from Augustus: even telling a white lie to prevent a friend from being expelled from school is a sin. Therefore, no matter how good a person thinks he or she is, the fact is that we are all sinners. We sin because, unlike God's character that is pure and holy, we are evil.
Secondly, we learnt that "Because we are evil, we choose to do wrong". Ever wondered why we choose do things that displeases God without Thinking? Because we are evil by nature. In order to overcome this instinctive action, we have to FEAR God. Yes FEAR God. What does fearing God mean? some may ask... Well fearing God mean to give Him the due Awe + Respect + Reverance. Fear in this instance does not mean that God is not a loving God, it means that we need to fear doing evil things. All these evil deeds are recorded by God and during judgement day God will judge us accroding to that. Yeah it seems scary with the 'Judgement day thingy' thats why we must fear God! If we truly had a fear of God, a sense of awe, then our conduct would be redically different from what it actually is.
In conclusion, we are sinners because we are evil and as a result of our evil we choose to do wrong and sin. This leads to a broken and destroyed relationship with God because God's nature is not evil and cannot sin; God cannot allow sinful people into His presence. He is holy and righteous in all He is and does. Our problem is sin.
Lets ask God to give us the strength to resist our own desires and that we will all be God-fearing people. yeah i'm done.
P/S I used more than a para from the book sry abt that.
