Qn: Why does God get to set the standard?
Consider these few points:
A. You can trust God’s standards because He speaks the truth and is truth.
§ People are often known by their character, the essence of who they are.
§ Read Isaiah 45:18-19,22-23. God speaks truth. He does not lie. In fact, He cannot lie because it is not in His character.
§ Read John 14:6. Jesus tells others He is truth. He is the embodiment of truth and cannot mislead anyone.
§ The fable about the Scorpion and the Turtle:
One day a scorpion arrived at the bank of a river he wanted to cross, but he could not find a way to the other side. He saw a frog nearby. He asked the frog to take him across the river on his back. The frog refused, saying, “I will not, because you will sting me.”
The scorpion defended himself, “It would be foolish for me to sting you because then we would both drown.”
The scorpion's words seemed logical, so the frog agreed to carry the scorpion across. However, when they were halfway across the river, the scorpion stung the frog. The stunned frog asked, “Why did you sting me? Now we will both die!”
The scorpion replied, “I'm a scorpion. That’s what scorpions do."
§ The point: It was the scorpion’s character to sting. It is God’s character to be truthful. He cannot lie or deceive. Because He is truth, He will lead you in the right way.
B. You can trust God’s standards because He is good and wants good for you.
§ Today’s culture has varying views of God—from the doting grandfather to the wrathful judge. What are the different views of God expressed in contemporary life? Many people view God as distant and not really involved in an individual’s life.
§ Read Psalm 100:5. Just as truth is part of God’s character, so is goodness.
§ What are some evidences that God is good? Can you trust God to be good even though the situation doesn’t look good?
Conclusion
§ It doesn’t really matter whether or not we want to accept God’s truth or His goodness. He will continue to remain consistent to His character regardless of what we do. He is God and we are creation.
Spend some quiet moments to reflect.
