It's the season to be jolly, fala lala la, lala la la. Blink of an eye and it's Christmas again!! How time flies man. Preparation for thanksgiving dinner is still fresh in my mind. Before we know it, another year has passed.
You walk around orchard road and you see posters reading, "Christmas is a time of giving!" It's not so much about buying gifts and exchanging presents ( i won't reject any presents though), but as christians, we know that this season is for a reason! As the advertisement goes:
Price of a candy cane : $2 (because of inflation)
Price of the iPod Nano you've been eyeing for: $238
The gift of God's only Son: Priceless!
Each of us had received a gift from God which is Christ Jesus, and it is the best gift that anyone of us can receive. We do not have to pay a single cent for this gift, instead it was Jesus who paid this gift with His life, just so that we can receive it. For those of us who have already received this gift, let us share this gift with our friends who have yet to hear about this gift.
Besides being a season of giving, for me it is also very much a season of forgiving. The reason why Jesus came down to earth was simply to redeem us from our sins, to forgive us. Even as I approach his festive season, I need to reflect on how I have to learn to forgive, and also to whom I need to seek forgiveness from. Through our willingness to go up to a person whom we might not really like, and to tell the person that you forgive them, will be a really bold move, and it that would reflect God's gracious love through us.
This love and forgiveness that we are willing to demonstrate for one another will reflect a lot about this God we always talk about and worship to. John 13:34-35 says," A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Even as we get busy helping up in the Christmas party, shopping for gifts or even just hanging out with friends, let us give each other and our friends a greater reason for this season!!
