Yo LKYouths!!
WUZ UP!!! How's the 1st week "back" in school? hee .. hee .. some of you hardly had a school break yeah ...
Today's Maundy Thursday. You might be asking ... ehh ...what so special about this Thursday? Well ... Maundy Thursday is the Thursday of Holy Week (the Thursday before Easter). It was the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples, sharing a meal with them which we call the Last Supper.
In fact, this celebration was quite a sombre occasion.
In those days it was usual for a servant to wash the guests feet on arrival. On this occasion there was no servant present and none of the disciples volunteered to do the menial task. Instead, Jesus got up and washed his disciples feet, giving them an object lesson in humility and service.
The word "Maundy" comes from the Latin for 'command' (mandatum). It refers to the command given by Jesus at the Last Supper, that his disciples should love one another.
It was later that night, after the meal, as Jesus and His disciples were praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, that Jesus was arrested and taken to the house of Caiaphas the High Priest. On Friday, He would die.
You might ask why do we observe these age old events? They call us to move behind the joyful celebrations of Palm Sunday and Easter, and focus on the suffering, humiliation, and death that is part of Holy Week. It is important to place the hope of the Resurrection, the promise of newness and life, against the background of death and endings. It is only in walking through the shadows and darkness of Holy Week and Good Friday, only in realizing the horror and magnitude of sin and its consequences in the world incarnated in the dying Jesus on the cross, only in contemplating the ending and despair that the disciples felt on Holy Saturday, that we can truly understand the light and hope of Sunday morning!
I'ld like to show a video clip that Jeremiah shared. It's a dramatic presentation of how loved we are by Jesus. Question is ... do we also love HIM just as hard?
For it's Christ, and only in HIM, we're SAVED!!
