Baptism Testimony - Monday, April 30, 2007 @ 5:52 PM
Hiya!!
Last Sunday saw the public declaration of faith by 4 young Christians: Daniel, Stephanie, Janice & Seanna. If you remember in our previous blog on "Sunrise Service", they were baptised on Easter Sunday @ East Coast Park. Yesterday, they stood in front of many witnesses to declare with clarity & sound mind that each have individually accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour and hereafter, desire to walk the journey with Him.
Another activity-filled history lesson investigating the events that happened during the time before Jesus was born! AWESOME.
Of course there was the celebration of the April babies first. :D HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO STEPHY, DARRYL AND SHUEN! Many blessings on your birthday (:
Oh yes, the lesson, can't forget that. It started off with a little activity for the 3 groups to place the names of the people involved with the time of which the event happened. Did you get that? Hmmmm. Timeline. Insert people to relevant events on timeline. Something like that.. A bit tough but nevertheless, doable with teamwork and of course, mostly the help of *pssst* the bible. Pretty informative!
We learnt what happened to the people of God, how they disobedied then repented, then disobedied then repented and disobedied then repen-.... Well, it goes on. Oh forgot to add that God did "deliver them from their makers" each time they repented. What a forgiving and merciful God we have. (: There were acute observations from my group when we were discussing the questions. Like how Judah had the good kings while Israel had none.. How all the good kings well, don't seem to last long do they? Also, we were quite perturbed and intrigued by why God decided to keep silent for 400 years, something we wouldn't know but it was on the back of our minds. We did a timeline of our own spiritual walks with God and sure, there were ups and downs. A few of us shared our timeline and when were our peaks and when were our lows and why.. Of course we also suggested ways in which we can help one another to get up from our lows, encouraging each other. (:
And it was back to a summary with the rest in room 7. This time around on the timeline chart, about our walk with God since creation.. As Uncle Chee Weng said, it was like a stock market, going up then down then up then down, but ultimately, if you averaged it out, it didn't move much. Pretty much was stagnant. But still, God has something in store for us as he says so in Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Till next week where we'll summarise up the whole of the Old testament, have a blessed week. (:
Putting God a priority in life... - Thursday, April 19, 2007 @ 12:47 AM
hey hey...this is my 1st time writing an entry in the LK youth blog...haha...kind of weird n dun really noe wat I shld say or shld i say type...mayb u guys might juz wan to go to this website below to read 1st b4 reading my entry...copyright la so cant do e copy n paste thing...hee...
The Bible verse is taken from: Matthew 13:44-46-"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it." Actually, it is not really the verse that caught my attention at 1st but rather the devotion. To me life can often be so busy till finally I've reach this bend or i shld say crossroad where i hv to stop and decide which path I shld take after poly especially this period of time when I'm still waiting for God's answer if He wants me to go uni or not, n if yes, where?n if not, now what?to be frank I'm worried at watever decision that is to come and I hv a lot of dreams and passion till yestday(or shld i say e day b4) I went to this website n was reading the website the lyric of the song hits me and it goes like this:
Jesus, my passion in life is to know you
May all other goals bow down to
This journey of loving you more
Jesus, you’ve showered your goodness on me
Given your gifts so freely
But there’s one thing I’m longing for
Hear my heart’s cry
And my prayer for this life...
Above all else
Above all else
Above all else
Give me yourself
Written by Vicky Beeching
Particularly the line 2nd & 3rd line in e 1st verse..."May all other goal bow down to this journey of loving You more"...because I want that more than anything to be my prayer...to love God and above all my dreams and goals, that God's will be done in my life...That devotion actually encourages me a lot...and now looking back at that verse finding God is such an amazing thing, its like a hidden treasure or more than that more than silver or gold could compare, that once u've found it you do not want to let go any more cos its so wonderfully great and joyful...of course I'm not saying that it is a smooth or easy journey cos God didnt promise a bed of roses...There will be time when u will be persecuted by your family, close ones, your friends and so on but God promise rest, refuge, comfort and most of all salvation, eternal life...isn't it Great!!??Its my prayer that 1 day I can be able to give up my all for God and to follow Him...That song is also my prayer that all my goals and dreams bow down to this journey of loving you more...Are all of you ready to give up All for God?Let's pray that all of us may be able to that and to put God a priority in our life journey, that His will be done in our life n not ours...Amen
CE on 15th April 2007 - Tuesday, April 17, 2007 @ 10:42 PM
Hey hey, This is like the first time I'm blogging man. Haha.. Don't really have a habit of keeping a journal. Had some trouble trying to find a way to create a new post man. Haha..
Anyway last Sunday's CE was on 1 Kings and 2 Kings. These two books are talking about how the Israelites had asked God for a king to rule over them. Over a period of about 400 years, God gave them kings, some of which are good and mostly are bad kings. These bad kings had caused the downfall of Israel amd Judah.
One such king is King Solomon. In his early days of reign, he was a God fearing man. He followed God's commandments and even built a temple for God. When God asked him what was the thing he wanted most, he replied he wanted nothing else but wisdom. It pleased God and God made him the most wisest man in the world.
However, over time, his heart started to sway away from God. When God commanded that he should not marry many wives, and keep excessive horses, silver and gold (Deuteronomy 17:16-17), King Solomon disobeyed. As a result, God promised to tear the kingdom away. However, God was merciful and he told him that he would fulfill His promiseafter Solomon's lifetime.
When Rehoboam, Solomon's son, took the throne, a civil war broke up and God's promise was carried up. Soon the nation of Israel was splitted into 2 nations, namely Israel and Judah. Over the years, many bad kings ruled over the nations, doing things that are not pleasing to God. These bad kings also caused their people to sin, enraging God's wrath. Soon, Israel was exiled to Assyria and Judah was exiled to Babylon.
Through the lesson last week, one thing i had learnt is that knowing what to do DOES NOT equal to doing what you know. King Solomon was the wisest man in the world and he definitely knows what is right and wrong. However, he choose to choose himself over God, not doing what he knows. Growing up in church, biblical knowledge has been "drilled" into us all these years. If there was a quiz on the bible, we probably could have done quite well. HOWEVER, has just become head knowledge for us. We are "wise", knowing what to do, but have we been doing what we know? Have we been "sharing in sufferring as a good soldier of Christ Jesus", having the discipline of an athlete who competes according to the rules or having the dedication of a hardworking farmer?
Maybe as the church camp is drawing close, we can start pondering on these questions. What is our destiny?
One day when I was surfing around for new songs, I came across a familiar tune that once gripped me when I first heard it a couple of years back. It's the song "Can Only Imagine". Do you know that there is more to "life" than the physical (visible) things that we see/feel/touch? Have you ever wondered where you'll be when "life" is done? Or what you'll do when you come face to face with Jesus? Will you dance for joy because you're now with Jesus, your Saviour? Will you knee down, speechless & in awe because He is God?
'I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the older order of things has passed away."' Revelation 21:2-4 Here's the lyrics to the song. Song is written by band MercyMe. Read through them and imagine with me ... "what it'll be like"
I can only imagine what it will be like, when I walk by Your side... I can only imagine, what my eyes will see, when Your Face is before me!I can only imagine. I can only imagine. Surrounded by Your Glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for you, Jesus? Or in awe of You, be still? Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall? Will I sing 'Hallelujah!'? Will I be able to speak at all? I can only imagine! I can only imagine!
I can only imagine, when that day comes, when I find myself standing in the Son! I can only imagine, when all I will do, is forever, forever worship You! I can only imagine! I can only imagine!
Yeah! I can only imagine!
Yeah! I can only imagine! I can only imagine! Yeah! I can only imagine!! Only imagine!!! I can only imagine.
I can only imagine, when all I do is forever, forever worship You!I can only imagine."
It was a early 7am service down at East Coast Park where we celebrated the resurrection of the Lord as well as the baptism of our fellow sisters and brother in Christ.
We sang songs and worshipped the lord.
Later, after a short message from Aunty Meiming, Daniel, Stephanie, Seanna and Janice were baptised in the cold east coast waters with the morning sun beaming upon them.
It was heartening to see them baptised as we sang 'Happy days' pretty happily. (:
